On Wednesday, September 20th take your sketchbook to the outer limits!
Join other local doodlers, sketchers, illustrators and artists of all skill levels for a night of drawing. This is in celebration of Hal-Con 2017: the biggest, geekiest scifi convention in Atlantic Canada!
Free and open to everyone. Make new art friends. Doodle something new. We’re all coming together to nerd out over our favourite scifi inspirations while we sketch! 19+. Stay the whole night or just drop by to say ‘hi’.
Who doesn’t like to draw dead animals? Well, over 25 people showed up February 7th to draw our taxidermy still life. Donated by the awesome folks at Plan B Halifax, we set up mood lighting for a variety of animals. A fox, duck, owl, eagle and some sort of lizard gave us their best poses.
Originally to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit, the arrangement was supposed to be romantic in nature. Like most things with art, we didn’t have a set plan on how to achieve this. We didn’t even know what animals we were going to have until an hour before E3C! We settled on ‘love bird’ theme, grabbed the fox and a metal rose. It works, right?
Once they were all safely shuttled into The Foggy Goggle Pub, we set to work assembling the still life. Our very expensive setup required three plastic chip boxes covered by a curtain panel, and two lamps. DIY whenever you can!
All skill levels of drawing and photography were welcomed to come and take in this magnificent sight. We even had a King’s College journalism student write a story on the event.
Dispite the cold, inside the Foggy Goggle artists of all abilities came together to render these critters. It was a fantastic night, and we hope you enjoy some of the drawings created from it. Again, a special thanks to Plan B for once again letting us raid their shop of curiosities to bring Halifax the best in creative events!
Back by popular demand! We’re setting up a beautiful assortment of taxidermy for you to draw, photograph or just enjoy. To get into the Valentine’s Day spirit, the arrangement will have a romantic theme… somehow.
All skill levels of drawing and photography are welcomed to come and take in this magnificent sight. Not much of a drawer or photographer? No problem – you do not need to participate in the still life if you have other creative skills or passion. There will be lots of space to hang out, converse and enjoy the atmosphere. All creative types welcomed.
Please note that the meetup is being held February 7th, one week earlier than usual. We didn’t want love-struck bar patrons to be sidetracked by this glorious arrangement on Valentines Day.
To me, there’s nothing like sitting down with my sketchbook at a coffee shop or the nearest library, enjoying a beverage. I look down at a blank page, and wonder what to draw at that moment. Without thinking too hard, I take the plunge and just draw.
I often spend my lunch hour drawing, sketching or doodling. It’s a great way to take my mind off of work, like not worrying about deadlines. To me, it’s relaxing. My creative lunch hour is my solace and solitude. Read More

Exactly one hour after the first day of Collide Creative Technology Conference wrapped up, video game theme music could be heard echoing from the main stage. Setting the theme of ‘leveling up your portfolio’, the music by Nerd Army welcomed attendees to the start of the third E3C + Behance Portfolio Review.
Rob Cameron considers himself a drawer of all sorts. While he doesn’t have a problem drawing from imagination, or putting together comics from what he calls “His weirdest thoughts”, it’s easy to see one of his main focuses is life drawing. You can see his work on Very Satisfied, and even join him at Plan-B Wednesdays 7pm to 9pm for the life drawing sessions he administrates. We took some time Read More
I spent the weekend in a house with 12 other artists drawing nude people in the dead of winter. It was one of the most amazing three days I have spent in a very long time, and I have the kind folks of Red Clay and fellow participants to thank for it. Read More
While attending art college, I had the pleasure (or pain, depending on how hungover I was) of taking a 4-hour life drawing class twice a week for three years. As a student I didn’t always look forward to the opportunity to have a model in front of me, but boy do I miss it now. Now many years out of school, I look forward to attending local life drawing events, but such access isn’t always available. So, to the interwebs I go! Read More
