E3C Taxidermy Life Drawing

Taxidermy Still Life night a success!

Who doesn’t like to draw dead animals? Well, over 25 people showed up February 7th to draw our taxidermy still life. Donated by the awesome folks at Plan B Halifax, we set up mood lighting for a variety of animals. A fox, duck, owl, eagle and some sort of lizard gave us their best poses.

Originally to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit, the arrangement was supposed to be romantic in nature. Like most things with art, we didn’t have a set plan on how to achieve this. We didn’t even know what animals we were going to have until an hour before E3C! We settled on ‘love bird’ theme, grabbed the fox and a metal rose. It works, right?

Once they were all safely shuttled into The Foggy Goggle Pub, we set to work assembling the still life. Our very expensive setup required three plastic chip boxes covered by a curtain panel, and two lamps. DIY whenever you can!

All skill levels of drawing and photography were welcomed to come and take in this magnificent sight. We even had a King’s College journalism student write a story on the event.

Dispite the cold, inside the Foggy Goggle artists of all abilities came together to render these critters. It was a fantastic night, and we hope you enjoy some of the drawings created from it. Again, a special thanks to Plan B for once again letting us raid their shop of curiosities to bring Halifax the best in creative events!

100in1Day: a celebration of community, reimagined

100in1Day – that’s 100 actions all happening on one day: on June 4th.

Join other citizens in making the Halifax Region a better place through organizing yourself or participating at others’ ‘interventions’. Interventions or urban actions are a simple, low-cost way for anybody to showcase their ideas for a better city.

Any individual or organisation can participate and use this opportunity to get the word out. Last year these ideas ranged from street art and urban gardens to beautification projects and social events that turned strangers into neighbours. No action is too small. Read More

We Are Culture

Could you hear it?

It was the sound of footsteps marching. Wednesday, April 15th 2015 was remembered as the day of saving Nova Scotia’s Animation, Film and TV industry. It was the biggest rally in the province in recent years. I joined thousands who descended onto Province House, the provincial legislature of Nova Scotia. Everyone in the creative industry (animators, film crew, musicians, etc.) stood united in solidarity alongside local business owners, entrepreneurs and students. Read More

PODCAMPING 2015

I hate winter! I share everyone’s sentiment about this season. I never imagined being bombarded with over 80 centimetres of snow, let alone shovelling that much! Aside from the muscle aches from constantly shovelling the white stuff, I’m trying to be a good sport and see it as much-needed exercise. But with the flash freeze, icy sidewalks and blinding blizzards, I can’t really walk far for some fresh air and inspiration. GET LOST “OLD MAN WINTER”! Read More
